Mayfair Open success for in-form Perry

Kenilworth’s Sarah-Jane Perry has collected her sixth Women’s Squash Association tour title by winning the Mayfair Open in Toronto, Canada.

Seeded three, Perry eased past Megan Craig (New Zealand) and Lauren Selby (England), both 3-0, to set up a semi-final against second seed Sarah Kippax (England).

The more experienced Kippax took the first game but Perry raised her level to take the match 3-1.

Third seed Heba El Torky (Egypt) provided a stern test for Perry in the final having knocked out the top seed, Mexico’s Samantha Teran, to reach the showpiece.

Perry started strongly, leading 11-5, 4-1, but then El Torky fought her way back into the match, taking the second.

However, Perry maintained a lead throughout the next two games to take the title.
