McCarthy and Simkiss are elite duo at Warwick relays

Kenilworth Runners’ duo Chris McCarthy and Rich Simkiss claimed victory at the Warwick Relays, hosted by Warwick University Athletics and XC club.

Simkiss took the opening leg, handing over to McCarthy in second place after clocking 10:31 for the two-mile circuit.

Three-quarters of a mile into his leg of 10:39, McCarthy duly passed the lead runner from Nottingham University and held his advantage until the handover.

Simkiss followed up with a second lap of 10:32 to leave McCarthy with a comfortable 30-second gap to nurse through to the line, with the duo finishing in 42:51, 34 seconds clear of the Nottingham Uni pair.
