McCarthy clocks a best at Bristol but Savery gains the local bragging rights

Chris McCarthy justified his elite status by recording a new personal best time of 1hr 11min 33sec for 13th place at the Bristol Half Marathon - the third-fastest half-marathon ever by a Kenilworth Runner.

However, McCarthy was pipped for the honour of leading local runner by Leamington C&AC’s Andrew Savery, who pulled away from him in the final few miles to finish 12th in 1:11:20.

The race was won by Ben Siwa of Run Fast in 1:03:55.

Also at Bristol, Spa Striders’ Mel Venables, who is in training for next month’s Abingdon Marathon, took several minutes off her
personal best to finish 20th lady and 239th overall in 1:26:08.
