National indoor success for Roberts

Leamington’s Isobel Roberts won the under-12 category at the Junior National Indoor Championships in Telford.

Shooting the Portsmouth round of five dozen arrows at a 60cm face over 20 yards, Roberts scored 457 to finish 18 points clear of second-placed Isobel Ager.

In the boys’ under-12s event, fellow Leamington archer Michael McCarthy was fourth with a score of 437.

Naomi Folkard took the honours in the ladies’ recurve at the Senior National Indoor Championships.

In the 18m qualification round, Folkard shot 586 to equal her existing national record.

She then stormed through her head-to-head matches, beating Swedish international Jenny Jeppsson 6-0 in the final.

Former Great Britain international Vlada Priestman (Nethermoss) finished third.

The in-form Folkard has been selected for the GB team to compete in March’s European Indoor Championships in Spain.

However, with the Olympic programme no longer supporting indoor shooting, Folkard will have to fund the trip herself.

Folkard is therefore looking for sponsorship to help contribute to her estimated costs of £750.

She can be contacted by email at [email protected]
