Newman, 56, who was competing for Great Britain 14 years after having a life-saving kidney transplant, secured a bronze in the mixed doubles table tennis with Frank Clarke (Edinburgh) and matched it in the women’s doubles badminton alongside Blackpool’s Judith Burgess.

And she said despite it being her fifth World Games, she will never stop being thankful for the opportunity to help raise awareness both in the UK and globally of the need for more people to sign on to the Organ Donor Register.

“The achievements made are very much in honour of my donor and their family,” said Newman, who also competed in the petanque. “As without their gift I wouldn’t have lived the last 14 years with such a healthy life.”
