Leamington Rugby Club record holders back together

It was reunion time at Leamington Rugby Club earlier this month when their all-conquering mini and junior rugby team of the early 1980s got together again.

The reunion was organised by John Lyons, the club historian, who has written a book on the club’s history with some remarkable old photos.

It is 30 years since the team set a world record for the longest unbeaten run by a rugby team between 1980 and 1984, going 92 successive games without defeat.

During this time they played all the best teams in England and Wales and beat them all.

Their efforts were recorded in the Guinness Book of Records where they were cited as the world’s best rugby team.

The colour photo shows Chris Adams presenting a certificate of the record to club chairman Phil McGaffin and the black and white photo shows what the team looked like back in 1984.
