Reg’s puzzle over secondhand Bible

An avid Nostalgia reader has a puzzle which he hopes someone can solve.

Reg Gale of Lighthorne bought a secondhand New English Bible for about 20p at a book sale on a market day in Moreton-in-Marsh.

He said: “Looking through it at home I was most intrigued by two things. Firstly how well used it was, by its numerous ticks and notes on many pages by its apparent owner whose name, Irene M Hartshorn 1987, is written on the fly leaf. Secondly a photograph of seven youngsters was inside, with some of their names on the reverse: Douglas Baker, Len Empringham, Colin Cookson (?), Arthur Cash (?) and Jesse Richards.

“There is also a funny face with the name ‘Jane Catherine’. I’ve tried several times to find the former owner Irene or her family so that I might return the Bible to her. Perhaps with the kind help of your readers I could achieve this?”
