Four finalists competed for the Kenilworth Club’s Association Croquet championships and the Castle Cup.

The first round saw two tight games with the higher handicapped players giving the two favourites a scare.

Mervyn Harvey was ahead of Cliff Daniel by two hoops in the final stages, but Daniel achieved a good break to win, 18 – 15.

In the second game, Adrian Morris was not showing his usual form whereas Philip Wood was making good progress. A good break near time, however, saw him overtake Wood by just the one hoop. Morris then showed better form to win, 18 – 12.

At this stage, both Wood and Harvey were suffering with back pain and were obliged to withdraw. This left Daniel and Morris to play a final game.

Both players made some careless mistakes along with some excellent breaks. Morris took the advantage but had difficulty finishing whilst Daniel was catching up with a nice break.

When Daniel missed a long roquet, Morris was able to finish and win the Castle Cup and the Club AC Championship, 26 – 18.
