Congratulations to Will Gardner and Lesley Ross who have been selected to represent England in the annual European INTERLAND competition. The individual and relay races this year between two Belgian teams (Flemish and French speaking), Netherlands, Northern France and English teams take place in the woods at Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire on 1st March. There will be 42 England team members spanning age groups from 14 to 60 plus. Selections were based on a series of events that took place in the autumn.

The first West Midlands league event of 2020 took place at Brindley Heath on Cannock Chase and was organised by Walton Chasers. OD members turned out in force to accumulate 1461 points and take the lead from home club Walton Chasers 1442. Scoring the maximum 100 points for the club by winning their age classes were Will Gardner M21, Rob Bambrook M45, Chris McCartney M50, Trevor Simpson M80, Tabitha Lunn W16 Harriet Lawson W21, Lesley Ross W50 and Janet Richardson W70.

The New Years Day West Midlands clubs event - Laurie Bradley Trophy - around Baggeridge Country Park, was won by Wrekin Orienteers and Octavian Droobers came 3rd. Trophies were presented to the highest scoring juniors and OD’s juniors scooped both. Felix Lunn M18 was the fastest boy finding 30 controls (300 points) within the time limit of 1 hour and Florence and Tabitha Lunn shared the girls trophy scoring 180 points.

Octavian Droobers welcomes newcomers of all abilities to this fun adventure outdoor sport, runners and walkers, of all ages 5 – 85 years, to its next event on Saturday 11 January centred around Daventry Country Park, with registration and starts near the ICON centre. A variety of length courses from 1.5km up to more than 5km have been planned. Families especially enjoy this as it is often likened to a treasure hunt. One advantage is that there is no need to pre-book your place, just turn up, anytime between 10am and 12noon, instructions will be given and compasses can be borrowed.
