Newbold team news saw the return of skipper Ben Thompson at second row along with Tom Dixon (back row) and Danny Treharne (centre) with Dan Obrien moving to flyhalf for the visit of Droitwich, writes Phil Fereday.

Newbold started strongly and were straight on the attack and after five minutes of play converted a penalty by Dan O’Brien 3-0.

The first try for the Bold came after some slick ball movements along the back line for centre James McGill to touchdown in the corner for a unconverted try 8-0 .

The next score came after a period of pressure on the Drotwich try line which saw Ben Dawes bulldozing his way over for a score converted by Dan O’Brien for 15-0 .

Then, against the run of play, Drotwich broke away and scored a converted try closing the gap to 15-7 .

The Bold were soon back in the visitors’ half again after a fine break by Tom Dixon and a catch and driSkuve from a lineout the ever-improving Rob Sandercock crossed the line to touch down.

The conversion by Dan O’Brien made it 22-7 at half time.

In the second half Newbold were getting more on top of the visitors, dominating both scrum and lineouts with Tom Dixon and Rob Sandercock stealing the opposition’s ball, but a determined defence kept Newbold from scoring .

Finally after a series of scrums it was number 8 Rudi Reid, who once again had a fine game, who scored the bonus-point try which was converted by Dan O’Brien to make the final score 29-7.
