20 years since the Applied Management in football course launched at Warwick Business School, Alum Lee Carsley is aiming for his third straight win as interim England manager.

Born in Birmingham, Carsley enjoyed a 17-year playing career as a midfielder in the Premier League and Football League with Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City, Everton, and Birmingham City. He also represented the Republic of Ireland in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

After retiring in 2011, Carsley transitioned into coaching, starting on Warwick Business School’s doorstep at Coventry City.

He held roles with Coventry, Brentford, Manchester City, and Birmingham City, often stepping in as interim first-team manager. In 2015, he joined the England youth set-up and progressed to head coach of England U21, leading them to European Championship victory in 2023.

Carsley’s Midlands roots and wealth of experience, both as a player and coach, will be central as he takes charge of the national team.
