Perry revenge for Beddoes

Kenilworth’s Sarah-Jane Perry met Emma Beddoes for the second successive weekend and this time it was the Leamington-born player who came out on top.

Both had 23-minute victories to reach the final of the Reliable Networks BSPA UK Grand Prix in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Beddoes beat Kirsty West 11-1, 11-1, 11-8 while Perry scored a 11-6, 11-2, 11-3 success over Sam Ward.

The first four games of the final were all close, with Perry, who overcame Beddoes in France the previous weekend, looking to be heading for the title when leading two games to one and 6-2.

However, a succession of tinned returns let Beddoes back into the match and she also took the final game to claim a hat-trick of Boston titles with a 11-9, 10-12, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5 success in a match spanning 63 minutes.

Kenilworth’s Chris Fuller reached the quarter-final of the men’s event with comfortable wins over Sam Ellis (11-7, 11-3, 11-3) and Nick Sutcliffe (11-5, 11-9, 11-5).

He then twice recovered from a game down to beat Kevin Moran 7-11, 13-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-5 in 85 minutes.

However, his last-eight clash took its toll as he went down to a 11-4, 11-9, 10-12, 14-12 semi-final defeat to Eddie Charlton, who benefited from having an easier passage to the last four.

Charlton then went on to claim the title with a 12-10, 11-8, 11-9 victory over Greg Loban.
