Veteran Dave Pettifer, who ran the second fastest marathon in 2014 for a 65-year old in 3hr 8min, currently tops the 2015 rankings for the 20-mile distance after his 2:20 clocking at Ashby, putting him more than five minutes clear of his nearest rival.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the age spectrum, Cambridge University student Paddy Roddy ran the UK’s fastest half-marathon this year for an under-23 athlete at Reading.

Roddy also set a new club record of 1:10:13 in the process, finishing 61st overall.

Kenilworth Runners chairman Peter Bryan said: “Both of these guys are inspiring everyone at the club.

“Dave is running times anyone of any age would be proud of and it just goes to show that age is absolutely no excuse.

“Paddy, on the other hand, is shaking up some of the quicker guys and that’s helping to lift the standard across the board.”
