Plank twist for Doyle

Guinness World Records Fitness Endurance champion Paddy Doyle has added another record to his burgeoning list.

The Balsall Common athlete held the abdominal sit-up plank position for 2min 26sec, while carrying a 100lb backpack.

The 100lb will stand despite officials later certifying the backpack as weighing 110lb.

“I have been training for 12 months for this record, adding extra weight to the backpack month by month,” said Doyle. “I did achieve a far better time in training and will attempt this record again in the near future as I know I can improve on the time.”

Doyle’s next challenge is a five-minute strength, speed, stamina record as part of today’s Olympic opening ceremony event at the BBC studios in Birmingham’s Mailbox.
