Regatta glory for Boat Club

Warwick Boat Club’s annual regatta attraced more than 100 crews from around the country for a hotly contested day’s racing, with three capsizes adding to the entertainment.

Sixteen Warwick crews took to the water, including four new crews, and Rod Jones did well to complete a race in his Primary 1x having capsized on his way to the start line.

Five of the Warwick crews claimed a win on home territory, including Richard Pember and Matt Davies in their Mas A 2x.

Despite being disqualified in an earlier event, the men’s 4+ of Ian Hodge, Adrian Clark, Peter Worth and Peter Masters, coxed by Joy Green, won in a private match against Evesham RC.

Kate Parkinson won a tightly fought race in her W Mas A 1x, only inching ahead in the last section.

Captain of Boats Paul Gosling won in his Mas B 1x against former WBC member Graham Giles and, shortly afterwards, stormed to victory in a newly formed Mixed IM1 2x with Ailsa Curtis.

In line with tradition, the Boat Club’s tennis and squash sections competed against each other in coxed fours for the final race of the day.

Each crew was only allowed four practice sessions and, after an evenly matched start, it was the squash team who raced home for yet another victory.
