Robinson in position to repeat 1995 success

Priors’ Kevin Robinson won the battle of the former champions in the semi-finals of the Leamington & District individual singles.

Robinson, the 1995 champion, got off to the better start against Nigel Croft (Nelson), dominating the opener with runs of 24 and 22.

Croft responded with a 26 break in the second frame to leave Robinson requiring two snookers on the brown, which he got before pinching the frame on the black to take a 2-0 lead.

It was one-way traffic in the third frame as Croft halved the arrears with a 29 break.

A break of 34 from Robinson put him in charge in the next before an uncharacteristic foul kept Croft’s hopes alive. However, after a long bout of safety Robinson potted the pink to take a 3-1 lead.

Croft dominated the fifth, limiting Robinson to just seven points to make it 3-2 before breaks of 26 and 23 allowed the Priors man to clinch the match.

Defending champion Phil Parkin (Nelson) dominated his last-four clash against Terry Robinson to exact revenge for his defeat to the Harbury man in the under-35s’ competition.

Blundell then completed a dramatic turnaround with a 45 break booking his place in the final.
