Old Laurentians 2nd XV continued their impressive winning streak with a nine-try demolition of a very young OC’s side, writes David Middleton.

That said the scoreline probably does not do the home side justice as at times they tested the OL’s defence to the limit and played a nice brand of attacking rugby, looking to run the ball at every available opportunity.

OL’s very own wrecking ball Ash Moore opened the scoring in typical style, brushing aside any would be tacklers in a devastating run which set the tone for his afternoon’s work, Sam White adding the conversion.

OLs were again playing some superb rugby with backs and forwards combining beautifully to create opportunities, and centre Ben Shepherd was the first to benefit, grabbing two tries with White duly converting both.

As the half drew to a close, wing Jordan Bunn found half a yard of space and once he had beaten his opposite number he turned on the after burners and raced away.

White again added the extras for a half time score of 28-0.

The second half mirrored the first with the home side throwing everything they had at OLs but the wall of green could not be broken and once they had possession of the ball Nick Martin’s side were unstoppable.

Sam Miles picked up the first score of the second half running a lovely line to go over under the sticks, making the conversion a formality for White.

Bunn claimed his second of the game using his devastating pace to great effect to score in the corner, White adding the conversion with a superb kick from the touchline.

Skipper Nick Martin then got on the score sheet from a well-rehearsed line out move which allowed the back row man to stroll over in the corner, which was just reward for his afternoon’s work, White narrowly missing with the conversion.Sam White then dummied his way over for the next score, the fly half also adding the conversion, before Hammond rounded off the scoring after more excellent work from the pack, White adding the conversion to finish with an impressive personal haul of 21 points.

This was another excellent performance with the pack laying down a fantastic platform for the excellent half back pairing of Richard Parker and Sam White to dictate the game. Chalking up their 14th win this season, OLs need just one more try to register 600 points for the season.

There will be some sterner tests to come in the next few weeks, starting with a trip to Stratford which will test the team to its maximum.

The last word should, however, go to Old Coventrians, who never gave up the fight despite the score line, were an absolute credit to their club and contributed massively to a highly entertaining game.
