Hayter, who appeared 28 times for London Wasps after spells with Worcester Warriors, Stourbridge and London Scottish, tweeted: “Immensely proud and excited to be selected.”

The 25-year-old signed a central contract with England Sevens earlier this month and made his debut in the first round of the FIRA-AER European Grand Prix Series in Lyon.

With the recent addition of rugby sevens to the Olympic programme, Hayter’s involvement with the England Sevens set-up puts him in line to be selected for Team GB at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The Commonwealth Games start on July 23, with the rugby sevens taking place on July 26 and 27 at Ibrox Stadium.
