Kenilworth Rugby Football Club (KRFC) is set to make a big step forward in its plans to relocate its premises in town.

The club will soon be submitting a full planning application for its relocation from Glasshouse Lane to the new premises at land to the east of Warwick Road, to the south of Kenilworth Cricket Club, adjacent to the new Pavilions residential development.

A spokesperson for the club said: "In normal circumstances, we would undertake a community consultation event but given the current situation with COVID-19 this was not considered safe or appropriate.

"However, we have taken steps to ensure that local residents, town, parish and ward councillors are aware of the proposals.

"We would welcome comments on the proposals."

The principle of the proposed development has already been established through the Local Plan policy as the current KRFC and the proposed relocation site are both allocated for redevelopment under the policies of the Warwick District Local Plan 2011-2029.

The spokesperson added: "The principle of the relocation of KRFC to the proposed premises is therefore supported by the Local Plan.

"The proposed development will provide new sports facilities for both the senior KRFC teams in addition to the mini and junior sections of the Club and will be a valuable asset for the local community."
