Scorchin’ performances from recently formed team

Harbury-based Scorchin’ Pawz enjoyed a successful weekend at the British Flyball Championships, the biggest competition in the country with more than 300 teams taking part.

Scorchin’ Rockets won their division with a personal best time of 19.42sec, while a second team from the club, Scorchin’ Rebels, came second in their section with a fastest time of 22.66.

Scorchin’ Pawz were formed from the ashes of another Warwickshire team and currently have 12 members ranging in age from eight to 60 meeting once a week at Harbury Rugby Football Club.

Captain Katy Jones, who teaches at Myton School, said: “I am so proud of our teams, our dogs and all of our handlers.

“We have worked incredibly hard over the past couple of months and everyone has really pulled together.

“The success of the teams at the championships is down to the dedication of all of our members and I am very proud to be their captain.

“I am excited about going forward as a club and being part of their future success.”

Flyball is a fast growing canine sport where teams of up to six race their dogs in relay format.

The dogs have to race over a line of four hurdles to a box which releases a tennis ball when triggered.

They then have to catch the ball and return it to their handler.
