After some anxiety there will definitely be speedway at Brandon for at least another season. An agreement was signed with new Brandon owners Brandon Estates Ltd and should be extended for at least a couple of years until a new site is discovered.

It was also announced that Jim Lynch will be Bees’ new team manager, replacing Gary Havelock who is to become a member of a new consortium taking over Berwick.

Lynch has worked at Peterborough with present promoter Colin Horton and has form as a team manager having previously managed the English International team.

It is understood that they have a list of about ten potential riders with whom they will be soon speaking.

There are changes to the league structure with Lakeside dropping down divisions due to their proximity to the Dartford tunnel causing problems attracting Friday attendances. Joining the league will be Somerset and Rye House. This should make a nine team set–up, although there appear to be slight doubts concerning Belle Vue and their new British Speedway Stadium.

There will be changes to next year’s set-up with the old Elite League being renamed the SGB Premiership with the old Premiership becoming the SGB Championship.

Krzysztof Kasprzak was voted Club Rider of the year at the annual Dinner/Dance held at the Holiday Inn, Coventry South recently.

Other awards were: Riders’ Rider of the Year – Danny King and Most Improved Rider – Josh Bates.

The awards were presented by the leader of Rugby Council, Michael Stokes, who has played a big part in recent negotiations regarding the stadium tenancy.
