Striders’ ladies team up for a winning repeat in Abingdon

For the second time in three years, Spa Striders fielded the winning ladies’ team at the Abingdon Marathon.

And, as in 2012, it was the trio of Carolyn Wilkinson, Melissa Venables and Clare Hinton who took home the silverware.

Wilkinson claimed fifth place in the ladies’ race and the prize for third V35 with a time of 3:06:15, closely followed by Venables (7th female in 3:07:32), with Hinton 17th lady in 3:26:08.

Striders’ men also recorded some good performances, with Paul Edwards completing his first marathon in 3:08:10 for 110th.

Dave Lindsay recorded a personal best of 3:57:48 (442nd), while Trevor Wilkinson led Striders home in 3.01:45 (65th).

Kenilworth Runners’ Stef Lunn ran a new marathon PB of 3:39:12 to finish 307th.

Lunn was followed closely by Tom Cosgrove in 312th position in 3:39:13.

The race was won by Chris Jordan in 2:32:35 and there were 636 finishers.
