Third string and club chairman Neil Staunton got Leamington off to a fine start, beating Simon Price 14-12 in the fifth game of an epic 92-minute battle of high-intensity racketball.

Matt Holt, battling a head cold, went down 3-1 to Stuart Ferguson and Leamington found themselves behind when British and Irish over-35 champion Rob Staunton lost in a five-setter to Ben Smith.

With the Spa side needing to win the final two rubbers to lift the trophy, two-time Leamington squash champion Pete Knowles shared the first two games with Simon Evans, both games being won to ten.

However, Knowles came good in the third and fourth, winning the last to two, to get Leamington back on level terms.

First string Jason Pike then came out on top in a titanic struggle with Curtis Tomlinson, winning in five to give Leamington the silverware.
