Taylor gains revenge

Steve Beaton’s good run of form continued at the two Players’ Championships held in Derby over the weekend.

Beaton, who was knocked out in the semi-final of the Grand Slam of Darts the previous week, reached the quarter-final of Saturday’s event and the last 16 the following day.

On the first day he beat Anton Liscsey 6-1, Wayne Mardle 6-0 and Wayne Jones 6-3.

He then overcame Andy Jenkins 6-4 before losing 6-1 to Phil Taylor, who Beaton had knocked out in Wolverhampton.

“I think Taylor was out for revenge after losing to me at The Grand Slam,” said Beaton.

Taylor went on to win the event, beating Mark Walsh 6-3 in the final.

On Sunday, Beaton eased past Simon Burt 6-0 and Kirk Shepherd 6-1.

A 6-3 defeat of Wayne Jones set up a fourth-round meeting with Robert Thornton, which the Wellesbourne thrower lost 6-5.

The final saw another meeting between Walsh and Taylor, with the Watford man gaining revenge for the previous day’s loss with a 6-4 success.
