Tennis player set for European Senior Club Championships

A KENILWORTH tennis player will take on senior players from across Europe in an international tournament this month.

Bill Devitt, a partner at Birmingham-based accountancy firm Chantrey Vellacott DFK, is one of a squad of seven from Leamington Lawn Tennis Club who will compete in the European Senior Club Championships for the over-45s in Spain from Wednesday to Sunday.

The 49-year-old will be up against players from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.

Devitt said: “It means a lot to us old boys.

“Quite a few of us have played at county level in years gone by but to be representing Great Britain at our age is a great honour and a thrill.

“For me personally it’s fantastic as I’ve never played in an overseas competition.”
