With the 2016 triathlon season approaching fast, Rugby Triathlon Club members are keen to see how their winter training has progressed.

Top of the pile were Claire Kelly and Craig Walker, due to get married in less than two weeks, when most couple would be preparing for the wedding, Claire and Craig travelled to Oulton park for the Oulton park sprint duathlon. A 5km run, 20km cycle around the famous motor racing circuit and finishing with another 5km run, they both exceeded expectations and both finished in the top 10 of their age group, which meant they both qualified to represent Great Britain at the European Duathlon championships in Spain. Also racing and qualifying was Andrew Boon showing that a hard winter’s training had paid off.

Some people decided it was too early to cycle hard and decided to get the heart and lungs working hard with some good running performances.

Derek Birch visited Milton Keynes for the half marathon and recorded a season’s best 1.38. Alison Morris also raced and recorded a fabulous 1.51.

Hywel Davies, in a period of hard training, competed in the 20-mile option and recorded 2hrs 30mins, good enough for 162nd.

The previous week plenty of members flocked to Coventry for the Coventry Half marathon, a great turnout from the club. First club member home was Hywel Davies, his time good enough for 11th place overall. This was a great result, especially as Hywel is presently training hard for the London Marathon. There were plenty of PBs from club members, a great day out.
