Turkey shoot secures a fourth Games for Folkard

Leamington's Naomi Folkard is Rio bound.

Folkard finished second in the women’s final individual qualification tournament, part of the Archery World Cup competition.

She was seeded fifth after the individual ranking round, earning a bye in the first eliminations.

She then went on to beat Cuba’s Elizabeth Rodriguez 6-2 and Kareel Mee of the Philippines 6-4 to reach the last eight.

Folkard then had to win her quarter-final match to guarantee a place at Rio.

After a difficult start in the strong winds, she came from 4-0 down to take the last three sets from Evengelia Psarra of Greece and win the match 6-4.

In the semi-final she had a further victory over Spain’s Alicia Marin 7-3, but had to settle for silver aftre losing to Estonia’s Laura Nurmsalu in the final.

Folkard’s Olympic place still needs to be ratified by the BOA, with the official team announcement set to be made on June 28.

However, after shooting at Athens, Beijing and London, the 32-year-old is confident she will be on the plane to Rio.

“I am really, really happy,” said Folkard.

“It’s very exciting to be going to a fourth Games and I will be looking to go further than ever before.”
