Cons looked to have missed out on the title after a 3-2 defeat to Nelson (Richie Evans 41, 34, Tony Baylis 32, 32, 32) in their final scheduled league fixture left them three-and-a-half points behind Nelson Bowls, who were in action the same night against Lillington Club.

However, a 4-1 defeat for the leaders against Lillington Club meant a 5-0 win for Warwick Cons in their quickfire repeat against Nelson, rescheduled from earlier in the season, would secure them the title.

And, with Ian Carter racking up three 30-plus breaks and Alan Batchelder weighing in with a 30, Cons produced a season-high aggregate score of just over 1,500 points to whitewash Nelson and claim the title by half a point.
