Warwick under-15s emulate schoolmates

Warwick School’s under-15 team have matched the success of their under-18 counterparts by reaching the quarter-final of the Daily Mail Cup with a 20-14 success over Bedford School.

Warwick made the trip to Maidenhead Rugby Club to play their much-delayed match against a side they had lost 31-7 to earlier in the campaign and had yet to taste defeat this season.

However, the visitors started positively with clever kicking pinning Bedford in their own half.

This strategy allowed Jack Ashford to go over for two tries following good forward play at the scrums and lineouts.

Will Stride added a huge penalty from inside his own half and then Jordan Ainslie capitalised on a Bedford handling mistake to kick through and touch down to give Warwick a 20-0 half-time lead.

The hosts responded with a spell of intense pressure after the break and scored two converted tries to set up a nailbiting final ten minutes.

With the pressure mounting, a great turnover from Joe Hill allowed James Taylor-Watts to run the ball out and seal Warwick’s progress.

Warwick under-15s will entertain Wellington College in the last eight on Tuesday (2.30pm), with their under-18s travelling to Wilmslow High School the following day for their quarter-final clash.
