Warwick women’s 3rds win title race

Warwick 3rds became the first Warwickshire Ladies’ Hockey League team to clinch promotion when they secured the Division Three title with a 4-2 victory over Coventry & North Warwickshire 2nds.

The women’s 3rds, who boast an average age of just 20, are also the highest scoring team across the four divisions with Vicky Allison leading the way with 28 goals and Becky Howe having chipped in with 23.

“The team has demonstrated great maturity and team spirit as it has grown in stature and confidence throughout the year,” said coach Steve Chidlow.

“With two further Warwick ladies teams at the forefront of the hunt for league promotion, this could be Warwick’s most successful season in the Warwickshire Ladies’ Leagues.”

Needing a win to wrap up the title, Warwick went behind to a short-corner goal.

However, Allison levelled and, as the home side took control, Becky Howe made it 2-1.

Twenty minutes into the second half, 14-year-old Aggie Poole looked to have made the game secure for Warwick, only for Coventry to pull it back to 3-2 five mnutes later.

The tension was finally relieved five minutes from time when Howe scored her second of the game.
