Weekend to remember for Leamington Ladies

Leamington Ladies’ 2nds gained the six points they needed from their final two matches to seal promotion to Warwickshire Division One

Leamington demolished Warwick 3rds 7-1 on Saturday and gained a gutsy 5-3 win over Long Buckby the following day with Nic Williams scoring four goals in both games.

They displayed outstanding passing and support play during both matches, with Liv Northover (3) and Jo Bevan also chipping in with goals.

Captain Clare Hassall said: ‘I’m very proud of the girls. They have put so much effort and emotion into the campaign this season.

“We were always behind the teams we were fighting for promotion but hung in there and believed we could get the points we needed to be promoted and we did it.”

Warwick women’s 1sts clinched promotion from Warwickshire Division One after a 4-0 win at rock-bottom Shipston.

In the face of a sluggish start from their visitors, Shipston bossed possession.

However, the Warwick defence held firm and they slowly began to take a hold on the game, gaining several short corners.

Warwick’s first goal came mid-way through the first half after a stunning strike from Ang Briggs was stopped on the line by a Shipston foot. The resultant penalty stroke was slotted into the corner by Nicki Breeds.

Warwick coach Dave Bryce had some harsh words for the team at break and his side emerged after the interval with more purpose.

With player-of-the-match Charlotte Poole pulling the strings, Warwick penned their hosts back in their own half and added three more goals, two from short corners.
