Williamson remains in impressive form

AFTER her fantastic run in Dublin the previous week, Monica Williamson put in another polished performance for sixth place in the Gloucester Cross-Country League at Cheltenham.

The Leamington C&AC masters international is now in a handy position for L50 age group gold with two of the four races completed.

She led the team home, with support from Emma Day (37th), Carol Blower (96th), Janet Mee (97th) and Ellyn Mee (101st).

The halfway stage sees the senior women sixth and the senior men seventh.

Jamie Langley was the first of the men home in 27th, with the rest of the team’s points coming from Jack Mee (33th), Steve Howes (48th), Brian Miller (82nd), Steve Roberts (93rd) and Michael Denney (95th).

Mee is lying in the bronze medal position in the under-20 age group, while at this relatively early stage other medal contenders are Howes and Alex Montgomery in the M50 category.

At the other end of the age scale, Leamington’s under-11 boys turned out in force, with Tim Virr heading the team in an impressive ninth place, followed by Gregory West (23rd), Toby Loveday (26th), Oliver McSharry (35th), Ryan Caruana (39th) and Mitchell Williams (59th). Five of the six were making their first appearances for the club.

Guy Allen had another solid run for fifth in the under-17 men, which puts him fourth overall, with Ray Charlton (16th) and George Loveday (17th) putting the C&AC team into the silver-medal spot behind Worcester and just ahead of Bristol team Westbury Harriers.

Emily Baker, 14th in the under-15 girls, and Lydia Mee, 12th in the under 17 women, completed the Leamington effort.
