World second for Richard

There was disappointment for Ryton-on-Dunsmore natural bodybuilder Richard Gozdecki at the World Championships in Barcelona when he once again lost out to Jonny Yrius.

Gozdecki took the votes of two of the seven judges, but had to again settle for second behind Yrius, who also beat him at the Europeans in June.

“With Jonny being ten-times world champion you’ve got to beat him by a wide margin to take the title off him,” said Gozdecki.

“I was 9kg heavier than him and my size went for me, but I’m going to have to put on more size and let the muscle maturity take care of itself.

“Ideally I’d want to be 12-15kg heavier than him.”

Gozdecki, who has already put on two stone since the competition thanks to “a couple of blowouts” is now planning a strongest man competition for the region in 2011 which will raise money for Cancer Research.
