Wurr is a blur at Warwick’s traditional Christmas Day run

The traditional Christmas Day run at St Nicholas Park, organised by Kenilworth Runners and Leamington C&AC raised £200 for Myton Hospice.

Runners took on a course of approximately 3.4 miles inside the park, with Simon Wurr first home in a super-quick 17min 49sec.

Leamington C&AC’s John Muddeman was second in 18:32, with Iain McLaughlin (19;20) third and Kenilworth Runners’ Marc Curtis three seconds further back in fourth.

Leamington C&AC’s Natalie Bhangal was the first female and tenth overall in 21:41.

Kenilworth Runners’ Connor Carson finished second behind former clubmate Rich Simkiss at the Ilmington 10k last Sunday.

The third race in the series was run anti-clockwise with Simkiss clocking an impressive 35:45.

Carson was runner-up in 36:19, with fellow Kenilworth Runner Wayne Briggs 14th in 41:15.

Leamington C&AC’s George Loveday was tenth in 40:25, with Brian Miller 22nd in 42:16.

Leamington C&AC’s annual Christmas Handicap was won by Katy Wilkinson, the sole junior female taking part.

Wilkinson completed two laps of the 1.1-mile cross-country course around Old Leamingtonians RFC in 20:56, with her handicap giving her a combined time of 36:26.

Martin Hadfield ran 35:35 for his four laps, with a handicap of 2min 45sec putting him in second place.

Kieran Chahal clocked 26:34 for his four laps - the third fastest time for the 4.4 miles - with his combined time seeing him beat his dad Rupe to the line by just 14 seconds.

Jenny Jeeves was the fastest lady over their three-lap course, running a superb 22:39, with Suzie Tawney the second fastest in 23:57.

In the men’s race, Callum Hanlon ran the fastest time for the four laps, coming home in 25:09.

However, a handicap of 17 minutes saw him finish well down the 39-strong field.
