Outdoor adventure heads to Leamington in Banff Festival

Explore excitement, live-action and exotic landscapes when the latest international Banff Mountain Film Festival comes to Leamington this winter.

Showcasing a selection of the latest short films and clips from the global mountain and sports community, the festival will inspire audiences from the comfort of the Spa Centre.

The UK and Ireland touring festival is now in its seventh year with the 2016 screenings set to be the biggest to date with more than 50,000 viewers expected to celebrate the outdoors across 85 showings.

Viewers will have chance to see two films selected from the 350 entered into the prestigious 40th anniversary festival to explore remote cultures, live-action sports and thrilling landscapes.

    A tour spokesperson said: “The Banff Tour generates a community feel at each location, attracting people with a wide range of outdoor passions who make an annual pilgrimage to a Banff screening in search of new ideas and inspiration for their own adventurous pursuits.”

    A total of 13 films will also be featured in the February 5th showing after winning acclaim at the Banff Mountain Film Festival which was held in the Canadian Rockies in November.

    Films include:

    Eclipse - winner of Best Film - Snow Sports and showing photographer Reuben Krabbe in his determination to capture an impossible photo of a skier in front of the 2015 solar eclipse in Svalbard.

    Operation Moffat received a special jury mention at the awards and shows the life of Britain’s first female mountain guide, Gwen Moffat scramble, swim and barefoot climb through the wilderness.

    Unbranded won the People’s Choice Award and shows four young Texas horseman trying to train and ride a string of wild horses 3,000 miles from the Mexican border to Canada.

    A Line Across the Sky won Best Film -Climbing and tells the adventures of a team scaling The Fitz Roy traverse, one of the most sought after achievements in modern alpinism and which has astonished climbers in Patagonia for decades.

    The festival will come to Leamington’s Spa Centre on February 5. Tickets are now on sale here.
