Organised by the locally owned and run Specsavers store on Market Place, 15 teams paid to take part, and along with donations for raffle tickets, helped to raise £868 for Sarcoma UK. Aaliyah, a 20-year-old student, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma after discovering a lump in her leg.

"We set an original fundraising target of £500, so to have surpassed that is just brilliant," says Specsavers Warwick store director, Sajad Ali.

"We’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone that took part and the local businesses that donated raffle prizes to help us reach such a fantastic total for Sarcoma UK. It was a poignant evening as Aaliyah was a close friend of one of our team and extremely well loved locally, but it was also a celebration of her life and so it was important that was recognised too.

"It was also brilliant to have Leroy and Angie Godfrey, Aaliyah’s parents, join us on the night. As a store, we’re passionate about supporting our local community and it’s with events like this that you realise how much people want to come together to help. As well as fundraising, hopefully we’ve raised awareness of Sarcoma to help others diagnosed with the disease."

Sarcoma UK is a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
