Royal Leamington Spa wins national Top Club crown

Spa bowlers retain national title against Lincolnshire

To win the National Top Club crown one year is a massive achievement, and to do it two years running is exceptional, but not surprising for the Royal Leamington Spa team who won all their rounds convincingly.

The success was sealed against Lincolnshire in the final in which they won all four games, despite the terrible weather conditions.

After losing two shots on the first end of the Singles, Emily Kernick set off in her usual fashion to win the game 21-2 which gave the team a great start.

Skip Kirsty Richards, with Michelle Meadowcroft, started slowly in the Pairs, but five shots on the third end gave them the encouragement they needed and a further five on the eighth end helped their cause as they went on to win 19-13.

Skip Chris Hurst, with Chris Leigh and Caroline Williams, also lost two shots on the first end, but that was the end of it for their opposition as they stormed away to win 24-3.

Last but by no means least, skip Janice White with Dawn Horne, Anita Cowdrill and Jenny Wickens started strongly and were 12-0 up before the opposition scored and started a comeback, but not enough to deter the Leamington squad who went on to win 20-14.
