1960s iconic faces pop into Kenilworth wine shop

RARE photographs of some of the most iconic faces of the 20th century can be seen at Kenilworth Wines.

Images of George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan and Lulu and the Avengers as captured by celebrity photographer Bill Zygmant are now on display at the shop in Talisman Square, Kenilworth.

A new Pop Art print of John Lennon created by Bill is also being exhibited until the end of January.

The show is being brought to the town by BRINK, a not-for-profit arts organisation that was set up by Kenilworth curators Sarah Silver and Tim Robottom, who is also an artist.

Passionate about photography from a very early age, Bill’s career began in 1962, when he joined a Fleet Street picture agency, later going freelance in 1966.

Soon he was taking pictures of stars such as Bananarama, the Bee Gees, Peter Davidson, Mary Hopkins, Madness, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rod Stewart and Barbara Windsor, with his works regularly published in Billboard, Musical Express, Picture Post and many national British newspapers and magazines.

Bill also took the first photograph of John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the Kings Road in London, months before the official announcement of their relationship.

More recently, his work was used on the cover of George Harrison’s biography, Working Class Mystic.

In this latest Vino Veritas showcase at Kenilworth Wines, all of the displayed works are signed by Bill and available for sale - and until Tuesday December 20, BRINK is offering a ten per cent discount on all photographs.

Visitors to the shop are also being offered the chance to win an exclusive John Lennon Pop Art print by Bill in a prize draw raising funds for BRINK. Tickets, costing £1, are available at Kenilworth Wines and at Town and Country Furniture in Abbey End or by emailing [email protected]

The winning ticket will be drawn by Bill during a wine-tasting event at Kenilworth Wines on January 26.

In the new year, BRINK will be launching Pigs Might Fly ... at the Tiltyard pub in Kenilworth - a new showcase of works by artists from around the area.
