Bands are walking the walk at Leamington gig

AN energetic evening of “foot-stomping” folk, rock and a bit of jazz will see the launch of a CD and showcase the talents of three Leamington and Warwick bands this week.

Rosetta Fire are performing for the first time their debut single, Against the Odds/I’ll Make You Feel So Alive, at the Venew in Rugby Road tomorrow (Friday) night, while The Tide and Sleeping Empires are also playing.

James Lapworth, who forms Rosetta Fire with Ant Gliddon, is organising the event “to remind people that there are local bands who produce good record music”.

He said: “Most people think of local bands as being great for listening to to accompany a pint on an evening, but this is stuff you are going to put on your iPod and listen to again and again.”

The Warwick 30-year-old has been playing with Ant, 28, for three years, but during the past year the pair decided to take their music a bit more seriously.

James describes their sound as “folk rock”, but he said: “There are songs which are jazzy and some are really rocky, while others are very folky - it’s really varied.

“We have been doing a lot of live gigs this year and working with a really good bunch of musicians, so we are going to take on some more band members soon.

“We are hoping this event will springboard us towards more gigs. The feedback we have had so far has been really good.

“This is an exercise to stop talking about something and making it happen.”

Playing alongside are rock band The Tide, whose single You Got It is being used on an international scale by BMW, while Sleeping Empires, who have just recorded their debut EP in London, describe themselves as “foot-stomping folk”.

Doors to the event open at 8.30pm. Entry costs £3. To find out more, call James on 07885 486956 or go online.
