Big things in the pipe-line for south Warwickshire’s Rosetta Fire

It’s been a good year for south Warwickshire band Rosetta Fire, who are playing in Leamington tonight (Tuesday).

The foursome from Warwick and Southam have released their first single Against the Odds - produced in Leamington by George Shilling, who has worked with Primal Scream and Paul Weller. Their lead singer and guitarist Jimmy Lapworth has featured alongside Sleeper, Edwyn Collins, Baby Bird and Shed Seven on the God Is In The TV Britpop compilation Shine (Again). And they are hoping to record their first album this year.

Speaking to the Courier this week, Jimmy said: “We have lots of songs so it’s difficult to pick 11 or 12 that will go on the final product.”

Having now taken on a manager, the band are clearly veering towards the professional circuit. But for now, they are all still working full-time alongside their musical pursuits.

Jimmy said: “We are all very busy, but we’re doing what we love.”

So what sort of sounds can we expect from the debut album? Singer Ant Gliddon said: “The genre is non-specific - it can’t be pigeon-holed. We don’t write to a genre, we just write songs.”

Rosetta Fire, with support from Shanade and Bunsen Honey, are playing at the Zephyr Lounge on tonight (May 20; doors 7.30pm). Entry £3. They also play at the Grand Union in Clemens Street, Leamington, on Friday June 13.
