Folk duo to pay tribute to the fallen with moving Armistice Day set in Leamington
A Warwickshire folk duo will pay tribute to the fallen with a moving set in Leamington on Armistice Day.
As part of the New Heart of England Folk Club’s Foak @ The Oak event at Oak House, in Upper Holly Walk, on Tuesday November 10 Harper’s Dove will perform the poignant songs Home Lad, Home, based on the First World War poem Homeward by Cicely Fox Smith, and The Rose of York, inspired by John Harris’ acclaimed 1961 novel Covenant With Death, which is set during the First World War.
Campbell Perry of Harper’s Dove said: “When we realised that our November Foak @ The Oak would fall on the eve of Armistice Day it seemed a perfect opportunity to perform some of these beautiful and powerful folk songs together in a themed set.”
This regular night of free folk music has been running since April and as usual, Harper’s Dove will be joined by four guest acts, who will each perform a 30-minute set to provide a rich and varied evening of entertainment, ranging from traditional British and Indian music, through to contemporary folk singer-songwriting and folky pop covers.

November’s guests are local band Stay Up Late, violinist Srividya Venkat, folk singer-songwriter Roy Browett, and Craig Sunderland, known for his unique style of traditional folk.
All are welcome and tickets are free, but should be reserved in advance at https://foak-nov.eventbrite.co.uk, where further details about the performers can also be found.
