Plans submitted to turn former Leamington care home into a SEN primary school
Plans have been submitted to turn a former care home in Leamington into a primary school.
The change of use application has been submitted for a former care home at 26 Warwick New Road.
If given the go ahead, the site would be turned into an independent primary school, which could cater for up to 35 pupils.
Although it is not mentioned in the planning statement, the transport statement said the school would be aimed at Special Education Needs (SEN) children.

It said: “The proposed SEN school would cater to up to 35 pupils and 10 staff. Pupils will typically be children with ADHD, Autism and similar conditions but without any significant physical disability.”
It added that the pupils would range from the ages of five to 11 years old.
When addressing transport, the statement said: “The applicant advises that the vast majority of pupils would be transported to and from school by minibus, as is typical for SEN schools.
“The local authority is required to provide one minibus and the school will provide a second minibus, each with circa 15 pupil spaces, hence giving total capacity of circa 30 pupils.”
“These minibuses would be used for day trips as well as transporting pupils to and from school, and would hence be parked on-site during the day.”
When addressing parking in terms drop-off and pick-up times, the statement added that there are a few spaces on Warwick New Road available and that there would no parking on site for this.
The on-site parking would be kept for minibuses and staff parking only.
Speaking about the plans, the applicant said: “The application site is located within a sustainable location, with strong transport links. It is therefore a suitable location for a school in principle.”
They added: “The school will have a maximum capacity of 35 students, ages five to 11 and will provide an alternative schooling option for families in the area.
“The provision of a new school in this disused building will ensure healthier and more sustainable communities, with greater access to education facilities.”
So far there are three objections to the plans.
