Delightful visions not to be missed at Warwick gallery

Visions of Glass exhibition, Mitchell Gallery, Church Street, Warwick. On until mid-August. Call 408787.

MESMERISING visual pleasures fill the light and airy indoor and outdoor space of the Mitchell Gallery in its latest exhibition, which on its opening night had crowds of people flocking through the door.

Glass has so much more than functionality to offer - and if anyone is unaware of the beauty that can be drawn out of its fluid and elegant qualities, they certainly will be after going to see the gorgeous creations in this display.

Delicate sculptures, platters, ornaments and installments - by established glass artists Allister Malcolm and Sue Parry and emerging talents Anda Nason and Luise Buckberry - are delightful to the eye and the undulations and reflections mean the eye can go on discovering more to appreciate as time passes by.

But functional they are too. Perfume bottles, plates and a lampshade are among the pieces on display, which range in size and are for sale at very reasonable prices, starting at £14.

Gallery owner Tom Mitchell told me he only started to develop an interest in glass art quite recently, but its captivating beauty has now confirmed him as a great appreciator. He is not, I am sure, the only one.

This is a lovely show really worth going to see at a fresh and bright art space in the centre of Warwick.
