Hit comedy spoof The 39 Steps at Talisman

Smash-hit Hitchcock spoof The 39 Steps comes to the Talisman Theatre in Kenilworth from June 1 to 6.

Patrick Barlow has taken the Alfred Hitchcock adaptation of the John Buchan classic with its shootings, chases, love-scenes and train-rides to produce a theatre piece that has been a continuous hit with audiences and production companies, and which won the 2007 Olivier Award for best new comedy.

The plot is well known and at first sight, the 104 character cast list might be daunting for producers. Fortunately, apart from Richard Hannay (Peter Gillam), the other 103 characters are played by Katie-Anne Campbell, Des McCann and Ben Wellicome.

Talisman Theatre spokesman John Francis said: “We’ve got an immensely talented and athletic cast here and the pace of moving from foggy London to wild Scottish moorland and the Forth Bridge is hugely entertaining.”

The final star of the action is a set designed by Wendy Morris that has to provide a continuous scenery for all the action, with changes even occurring mid-sentence!
