Jolly music at Warwick pub for cancer cause

A CELTIC rock band will be joined by folk, bluegrass and comedy musicians to help a Warwick cancer survivor raise funds for charity next weekend.

Mick Shaler, who has recently been given the all-clear after treatment for a rare cancer of the tongue, is about to hold the second of three gigs to say thank-you to those who helped him through his illness.

Worcester five-piece Hagglebag, a Celtic rock band which performs covers of traditional and contemporary Irish music, are rallying round for the cause, bringing their mix of double bass, acoustic guitar, mandolin, flute and melodion music to the Wild Boar pub in Lakin Road, Warwick, on Saturday May 19.

Also on the bill are Napton and Stockton band, Three Men in a Boat, who aim to get pub-goers singing along to their folk tunes, and Warwick and Redditch group, Revenge of the Wrinklies, who will entertain with bluegrass music and some comedy numbers.

There will also be a raffle on the night and people will have the chance to sample Piganini, a citrus-infused Indian pale ale that Warwick-based Slaughterhouse Brewery has specially produced for Mick’s concert trilogy.

As Mick has been cared for by Macmillan nurses, he will be donating all proceeds from the gig, which starts at 8pm, to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tickets cost £8 and are available from the pub, MDM Music Store in the Square, Kenilworth, and the Bakehouse Bakery in Swan Street, Warwick. Alternatively, contact Mick through his Facebook page.

The third gig will also be at the Wild Boar pub and takes place on Saturday June 16.
