Prepare to be dazzled at Leamington’s Spa Centre

JIMMY Carr, West End theatre and the Moscow State Circus are just some of the entertainments to look forward to at the Spa Centre in Leamington this season.

Following its recent refurbishment, the new-look venue in Newbold Terrace is promising its most exciting and varied programme to date, with comedy, drama, fringe theatre, film, family shows and a range of different musical acts.

Publicity officer Jo Lewis said: “Our main house will continue to be the home of established acts with a good line-up of well known comedians, bands, jazz, West End plays and family shows.

“We have gone from strength to strength with our studio venue, showcasing international opera and ballet - beamed live by satellite from Moscow, Paris and London - as well as giving you another season of fringe drama, classic plays, musicians, and new comedy talent and our long established cinema screenings of the latest world cinema and independent film releases.

“We’d like to think that amongst that range there should be at least a couple of shows to tempt you and hope that you’ll continue to support us over the coming season.”

One of the UK’s best-known sports personalities, Jimmy Greaves, will get things going on January 26, soon to be followed by the ever-popular comedian Ken Dodd on January 31.

Continuing the drama offering in the main stage will be Star Quality, a satire by Noel Coward, set in the world of theatre and starring Liza Goddard and Daniel Casey.

The Moscow State Circus and family show, The Wheels on the Bus, will arrive in town in February, as will internationally famous comedian Omid Djalili, soon to be follwed by Jimmy Carr and Dave Spikey later on in the season.

Live music events will include long-established folk-heroes Fairport Convention, as they celebrate their 40th anniversary, as well as some of the UK’s best tribute acts, including The Magic Of Motown – featuring the songs of The Temptations, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and Jackson 5 – and Rock ‘n’ Roll Paradise, a live tribute show featuring the hits of Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, and Buddy Holly.

The studio continues to host regular film screenings, including a special Valentine’s Day screening of Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and silent-era classic Safety Last, featuring live pianist, as well as weekly screenings of new releases from around the world.

February will also see both the Oscar and BAFTA movie awards, when the Spa Centre will screen the pick of the nominees from 2011 and 2012.
