Warwickshire art group goes international

SUNSHINE and sunflowers enchanted a group of artists from Leamington and surrounding areas who have returned from a trip to France to celebrate the launch of their first international exhibition.

A group of five from the Warwickshire Artists travelled to the market town of Civray, near Poitiers, where they and six of their fellow members are currently displaying work at La Grande Galerie.

Beginning their trip with a private view at the gallery, where they sipped wine and mingled with other artists and art admirers, the group stayed for some time at a holiday home belonging to Warwickshire Artist Moira Lamont, who has exhibited at La Grande Galerie before.

One of the group, Grace Newman, said: “It was all very relaxed and we had a lovely atmosphere. It was really special to be showing our art in a country that is so passionate about art.

“This is our first international exhibition as a group and it could be the first of many. Because we are an online art gallery, we do have links to other countries and we can sell our work to any country.

“It’s just about building on those links. Once people know you’re willing to exhibit abroad, you get a name for doing that.”

The group also travelled to St Malo, Poitiers, La Rochelle and other small villages and are now looking into organising art holidays to the country in the future.

The exhibition is on until the end of August.
