The first Whitnash Town Council meeting of 2026 gave an opportunity to give its residents some good news.

Despite a range of new facilities for the town such as new play equipment, improved lighting in the park and plans to enhance a community area in Washbourne Fields, paint the Civic Centre and look at a possible extension for the centre, the tax base for the Town would not be increasing from April to March 2027.

The council tax residents pay is made up of funding for the Town Council, Warwick District Council, Warwickshire County Council, and the Police and Crime Commissioner. At the time of writing the other bodies had not agreed their budgets but it was more than likely there would be an increase from the other authorities.

The Mayor and Councillors welcomed the Whitnash P.C.S.O who attended to give the police report. While there had been some crime in Whitnash since the November report, it remained low, especially when compared with other areas, some of whom have had a spike in thefts from cars.

The Councillors welcomed that traffic wardens, as well as the police, were now seen more often at school drop-off and pick-up times. Issues with electric scooters on paths and electric bike delivery drivers were raised. The police team were thanked for their programme of attending local events and groups so that residents could raise concerns with them in person.

The Mayor thanked everyone who had helped to make the Christmas Lights event a success, and the Lights committee will meet again soon to look at the event for 2026.

He thanked everyone who had attended his band concert in St Margaret’s Church, and wreath making and curry night, good ways to start the Christmas activities and raise funds for his nominated charities.
