Six engines were needed to tackle the blaze behind the Warwick pub after flames engulfed a large portion of the field just after midday.

It is understood that the pub, which was surrounded by smoke during the afternoon as the fire worsened, was hosting a wedding at the time.

But staff confirmed that nobody was hurt in the incident and the celebration was able to continue without an evacuation despite the blaze spreading fast during the afternoon

Pub staff also praised the work of firefighters for containing the fire and making sure nobody was hurt.

Speaking at the time of the fire, a Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are currently field fire was approximately 800 metres by 10 metres at the rear of the Saxon Mill, Coventry Road.

“There are five fire engines and our small fire unit in attendance.”

The pub did not close, and remains open as normal this weekend.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire, but it is thought a discarded cigarette may be to blame.
