Support stems only from admiration

Full marks to the Management Committee of the Friends of St. Nicholas Park for linking the name at the bottom of my letter in the June 3 issue to the name on the ballot paper in the West Ward at the May elections.

Mind you, making the connection can’t have been all that difficult as I always sign all my letters, not being a fan of anonymity.

What mystifies me, however, is why the committee feel that because I was a candidate at the election my views on the proposed Sea Scout HQ project (and presumably on all other subjects too) must be political.

Believe me, I have absolutely no idea what any party’s line is on this proposed development. My support for the Sea Scouts stems only from a lifelong admiration of their values and methods (starting from the day I joined the 1st Southbourne Sea Scouts in West Sussex in 1938) and the conviction that communities such as ours should work with the local troop so that as many Warwick youngsters as possible shall have the benefit of membership. - Geoff Harris, Mercia Way, Warwick.
